Large Buddha-Shakti - stone finish

8.25x5.25x5 and weighing 2.5 lbs this statue is made of bonded stone.
This sculpture shows vajadhara in his tantric aspect in embrace with his consort, Shakti, in a position of sexual union known as Yab-Yum (literally Father-Mother) in Tibetan and Maithuna in Sanscrit. Vajradhara represents the primordial Buddha, the one absolute power which creates itself with no beginning and no end. This depiction represents a fundamental concept of Buddhism, the union of the male with female, or compassion with wisdom, this marriage leading to enlightment. Vajradhara is seated in a meditation pose wearing a crown on his head. He holds a thunderbolt (Vajra) in his right hand representing the male aspect of skillful means and method. In his left hand, he holds a bell (Ghanta) representing the female aspect of supreme wisdom. The two together symbolize the unison of the male and female aspects which lead to liberation and enlightenment. Shakti holds a ritual Kartika, a curved knife in her right hand symbolizing the severance of ignorance and all material and worldly things. In her left hand she holds a Kapala, a skull cup used in tantric rituals for offering sacrificial meat or blood to protective deities.

Japanese Buddha in Meditation Garden Statuary

Made of Bonded Stone this beautiful Garden Buddha Statue stands 3"x 17.5" x 10" and weighs approx. 20.5lbs.
Gautama Buddha was born in 563 b.c. in northeast India. The Buddha was the son of Suddhodana, King of the Sakyas, who ruled at Kapilavastu, on the border of Nepal. His mother was Queen Maya and he was named Siddhartha. He lived amidst the pleasures of palace life and at 16 he was married to Princess Yasodhara. They had a son named Rahula. After seeing an old man, an invalid, and an ascetic beggar, he learned of suffering and decided to embrace asceticism. Soon afterwards, at 29, Siddhartha left the palace and his family and went to a hermitage where he became monk Gautama, or, as he is still called, Sakyamuni (The ascetic of the Sakyas). One day, meditating under a sacred figtree, he attained Bodhi, or perfect illumination. He had become a Buddha. From then on he traveled and preached for 44 years what was to become one of the main religions of the world. He died at Kusinagara at 80 years old.

Green Tara with color detail

9" High and Weighing 5lbs, this statue is made of bonded stone.
Tara's name means "One Who Saves". She epitomizes the influence of the older mother-goddess cults upon the Buddhist Mahayana religion. Her concept evolved in India and later she became the most important goddess in the Mahayana pantheon. She holds a very prominent position in Tibet and Nepal. Tara was born from a tear of the Boddhisatwa of Compassion, Avolokiteswora. She was conceived primarily as a savioress and is, therefore, the female counterpart of Avolokiteswora. She is also generally regarded as his consort and is frequencly protrayed with him. Tara is believed to protect human beings while they are crossing the ocean of existence. Her compassion for the living, her desire to save them from suffering, is said to be stronger than a mother's love for her children. Her most distinctive emblem is the blue lotus which she carries in her left hand. When she is red, yellow and blue, she is in amenacing mood; white or green and she is gentle and loving. This is the same twofold nature as Shiva's wife.

Mushrooms

About the Artist:

Alison Galvan grew up surrounded by the beauty that is Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. At the age of nineteen she flew the coup and headed to New York to earn her Fine Arts degree at Parsons School of Design, spending her sophomore year at their sister school in Paris, France. She has travelled extensively throughout Asia, Europe and North America, and at the age of 25 she married a Filipino and moved together with him back to the Visayas region of the Philippines to begin the adventure of married life. After the birth of her son, James, it was decided that for reasons of safety and opportunity it would be prudent to return to Canada. Twelve years later, today she resides in Richmond, BC with her husband, son, daughter, Phoebe, and their lovely little dog, Bear. And now after spending her days homeschooling her children, driving to ballet, karate and badminton lessons, and walking the dog, Alison has decided to work a little me time into her hectic schedule and is returning to her first love and passion, painting.

I was out for a walk in Pacific Spirit Park with my little dog Bear, when I came upon this beautiful little crop of mushrooms growing along the side of a rotting log. I know to some the idea of a bunch of fungus being beautiful may sound queer, but what caught my attention was how they were all growing together in their own little family group, working together, growing bigger and stronger. It struck me as how, here they are thriving in the dark moist depths of the forest, uncomplaining that they don't get all the sun, or the best soil, or the most space, etc... but just happy to be together and making the best of it. And then I thought of myself and all that I have and perhaps, just maybe I should stop complaining and just love my family and work together with them to make all of us as strong and healthy as we can be.
I learned that in the silence of the woods even the unassuming mushroom can teach me alot, and I am grateful for it.

Painted with Acrylic paint on Canvas, you may purchase the original which is 5" x 7" or you may choose to order a print in the sizes offered in the drop down menu. (Both the original and the prints are unframed)

Thank you for allowing me to share with you these personal moments. It is therapeutic for me, and I hope my artwork can be, in a small way, the same for you.

Buddha in meditation 8" Tall

8.5x5x5 and weighing 4lbs this statue is made of bonded stone.
Amitabha Buddha The Buddha of Infinite Light is a Buddha who resides in the Pure Land of the Western Heaven where all beings enjoy unrestrained happiness. Amitabha Buddha is the most popular Buddha in Japan, known there as Amida, and China where he is known as Amitofu. Those who recite his name, particularly at the time of dying, will be reborn in the Pure Land. According to Mahayana Buddhist Sutras he was a king in a remote period of time. Renouncing his kingdom, he became a monk and was named Treasury of Dharma, Dharmakara . After seeing the misery of all sentient beings, and moved to compassion, he made 48 vows in which he promissed not to attain enlightment until he established this Pure Land where all could be freed from their sufferings. He practised for many eons until he accomplished all his vows. Amitabha is a Sanscrit, literally meaning boundless light and boundless life. He is one of the five Dhyani Buddhas of Mahayana Buddhism. Together with his two chief companions, Avalokiteshwara and Mahasthampraptta, they are known as the Western Trinity. Here Buddha is represented in meditation posture with the hands together in Samadhi mudra. He usually faces the west.

Green Advertine Hands Up Buddha

Pure beautiful Agate carved Hands Up Buddha. Limited collection. Measures approx. 3.2 inches tall.

Green Advertine Buddha

The Laughing Buddha is a known symbol of happiness, wealth, kindness and joyous innocence. Rubbing his tummy each day, which is said to contain wealth, will bring good luck and prosperity. Buddha's should not be placed on the floor as this is considered disrespectful. Feng Shui recommends that you place your Buddha at least 4' above the floor in an elevated position. Treat him respectfully and he will reward you handsomely. Place him in your personal wealth direction.

The beautiful green advertine of this Buddha carving resembles Japanese Jade. This gemstone, Green Advertine, is as green as the lush mountains of Northern China. Hand Carved, these are available in several different sizes.

Amitabha Buddha, or Amida as he is called in Japanese, is the most popular Buddha in Japan. In China he is known as Amitofu. Its said that those who recite his name at the time of dying, will be reborn in the Pure Land. According to Mahayana Buddhist Sutras he was king in a remote period of time.

Amitabha Buddha is the most popular Buddha in Japan, known there as Amida and Amitofu in China. Those who recite his name, particularly at the time of dying, will be reborn in the Pure Land.
White Tara

8" High and Weighing 4lbs, this statue is made of bronze.
She is also generally regarded as his consort and is frequently portrayed with him. Tara is believed to protect human beings while they are crossing the ocean of existence. Her compassion for the living, her desire to save them from suffering, is said to be stronger than a mother's love for her children. Her most distinctive emblem is the blue lotus which she carries in her left hand. When she is red, yellow and blue, she is in a menacing mood; white or green and she is gentle and loving. This is the same twofold nature as Shiva's wife. White Tara has seven eyes. An eye of knowledge on the forehead and eyes incised on her palms and soles. She can be portrayed seated with her feet in the posture of meditation, standing or in a half dancing pose. Devotees invoke her for deliverance from the Eight Great Perils: shipwreck, fire, mad elephants, brigands, pouncing lions, serpents, prison and demons.

Large Rare Bronze Reclining Buddha - ONE ONLY!

Rare Large Bronze Reclining Buddha with gold leaf detailing. The Buddha measures approx. 29 inches Long X 12 inches Tall.
This depiction of the Buddha is at the time of dying, at which point he gave his final instructions to 12 disciples gathered around him, and then he adopted this reclining pose and passed into Nirvana.
